From us to you: Thanks!
Carrie Masek
It’s already November, a month for resetting clocks, raking leaves and remembering all the reasons we have to be thankful. High on our list this year is the opportunity to vote and have a voice in our democracy. We’re also grateful for good coffee and the folks who enjoy it. To thank our customers, we have some especially lovely coffees to share this Thanksgiving season.
Last month, we created Vote Coffee, a special blend for those who treasure our democratic traditions and love good coffee. As a thank you to customers who take part in this year’s election, we’re offering a free 1/2 roast of Vote Coffee to everyone who votes. If you’ve already voted, thanks! If you haven’t had a chance yet, please get your ballot in by November 3. Once you’ve voted, all you have to do to get your 1/2 roast of Vote Coffee is place an order and write “Vote” in the box for Additional Instructions. We’ll include the 1/2 roast of Vote Coffee at no extra charge*. Vote Coffee will be available from now until November 15.
Our November Coffee of the Month is Harvest Roast. Smooth enough to drink black and with enough flavor to stand up to cream and sugar, Harvest Roast is great to sip all day. Just be sure to save some for dessert, it's great with pumpkin pie! Available all month in full and 1/2 roast bags.
Our Exploration Coffee for November is Ethiopia Harrar Wild Cherry. A practically perfect coffee from the hills near Mesela, Ethiopia, this intense, complex, naturally processed coffee is silky smooth with cherry notes spiced with a hint of anise and balanced by hazelnut richness and a lingering cocoa finish. Unlike cultivated coffees, Harrar changes from pot to pot, from sip to sip. Roasted to a Vienna Roast level, this wild and wonderful coffee may also provide hints of cardamon, malt and chocolate. Roasted to a Vienna Roast level for the 1/2 roast Exploration coffee, or any way you like it in full roast bags. Ethiopia Harrar Wild Cherry will be available all month in full and 1/2 roast bags.
We love Ethiopian coffees, and now we’re excited to offer coffee from the first Ethiopia Cup of Excellence competition, Ethiopia Guji Cup of Excellence. The beans were entered by Ato Yidnekachew Seleshi, a 26-year-old farmer in West Guji, Hambella Wamena woreda, who started his own coffee business in 2015 right out of college. He is a third generation coffee producer and works with 180 other farmers to produce naturally processed specialty grade coffee. He submitted the best of his best to the Cup of Excellence, and we were lucky enough to buy some. It is a lovely coffee, smooth and full bodied, sweet, rich and complex. When we cupped it, Paul’s reaction was, “Wow!” The aroma is floral with a hint of spice and the floral notes linger in the flavor. One of our cupping team described it as “Jasmin petals dipped in honey.” There are also rich chocolate notes, a hint of blueberry and a wonderfully sweet and lingering cocoa finish. If you’re looking for a truly extraordinary coffee, give Ethiopia Guji Cup of Excellence a try.
November is also the start of holiday shopping season. This year, give the gift of great coffee! Whether you need stocking stuffers, a custom gift, or a present that keeps giving all year long, let us take the hassle out of the holiday season. We offer full and 1/2 roast coffee gifts and will even handle the mailing!
Or give the gift that keeps on giving. Check out our new Coffee Club Subscriptions. We now have three different Coffee Clubs: Coffee of the Month Club, Coffee Contrast Pair Club (the one most similar to our old Coffee Club), and Half Roast Sampler Club. You choose the club and the length of the subscription: 3 months, 6 months or 12 months. Orders continue for the length of the subscription, delivering fresh coffee monthly without the hassle of reordering. Set up a customer account, and you can monitor and/or modify your Coffee Subscription anytime you want.
Finally, to thank the readers of this blog, we’re offering a FREE 1/2 roast of Harvest Roast with your first order of the month. Just write, “November,” in the box for Additional Instructions, and we’ll add the coffee at no extra charge*.
Sharing coffee is our favorite way to say, “Thanks!”

~ Carrie, Paul and all of us at Coffee by the Roast
*Normally, we only send one free 1/2 roast of coffee per order. From now until November 15, however, we’re happy to send our customers who ask for them both the 1/2 roast of Vote Coffee and the 1/2 roast of Harvest Roast. If you know someone else who has voted, please share the coffee love and let them know about us and the coffee we'd like to share with them. Thanks!
