A Goodbye to Summer... But not to Coffee!
Carrie Masek
September signals the end of summer, the shift of seasons, and the start of a school year. Wherever you are and however you’re starting your September, here are some coffees to brighten and enrich your days, wake you up and get you going!
Easy Sunrise, September's Coffee of the Month, features a soft floral aroma followed by a burst of blueberry and lemon that melts into a lingering cocoa finish. Lively enough to jump start your brain and smooth enough to enjoy all day. Add cream for a lovely dessert coffee that's perfect with breakfast pastry or fall apple pie. Available all month in full and 1/2 roast bags.
Those who enjoy a refined and complicated flavor, should try September’s Exploration Coffee, San Francisco Foglifter. This is a crafted mixture of coffees matching the flavors known to 1950’s San Francisco Beat generation. It is a well balanced, heavy bodied coffee with a very intense, complex flavor. A wonderful coffee to linger over with dessert or poetry. Especially good prepared in a French Press. This is one of our favorite coffee blends, (it brings us back to when we lived in San Francisco in our twenties, so we are also shamelessly biased). Our recommendation is to roast it at a Vienna, but a Full City or darker is a more traditional roast level. Half roast bags, roasted at a Vienna roast level to heighten body and richness, will be available all September.
And if you’re looking for a truly remarkable, lively and complex, Roaster Gold coffee, try the Kenya Baragwi! This Microlot offers tangy fruit acidity balanced by sugary sweetness, with notes of rich, caramelized sugar, lively grapefruit and sweet cherry jam. Try Kenya Baragwi at a City roast level to bring out the exceptional Kenyan brightness, or try a Full City or Vienna roast for a sweeter, richer and more balanced cup.
Finally, to thank the readers of this blog, we're a offering a free 1/2 roast of Easy Sunrise with your first two-roast order this month. Just write, "September," in the box for Additional Instructions and we'll throw in the extra coffee at no extra charge.
Sharing great coffee is our favorite way to enjoy the last weekend of summer.
We’re planning to celebrate Labor Day this year with iced coffee and a backyard barbecue. How are you celebrating Labor Day and what is your go-to early autumn beverage?
