It's July!
Carrie Masek
Today is the first day of July, and summer has finally reached the Chicago area! The temperatures are heading toward 90 degrees F, and everyone is getting ready to celebrate Independence Day.
Flags? Check.
Fireworks? Check.
Coffee? Don’t forget the coffee! Whether it’s drip coffee before the parade, a tall glass of Cold Brew during the picnic or a cup of decaf with the evening’s fireworks, July is a great time for coffee. That’s why we’re featuring three coffees this month that are particularly good brewed hot or cold.
The Coffee of the Month for July is smooth, rich and creamy Summer Ice. Brew it hot to enjoy gentle citric topnotes balanced by almond nougat sweetness and dark chocolate richness. Or make a batch of Cold Brew for a low acid coffee that’s richer and sweeter with a full body and smooth mouthfeel. Summer Ice will be available all month in both Full and 1/2 roast bags.
The Exploration Coffee for July is Organic Congo Lake Kivu, roasted to a Vienna roast level. Organic Congo Lake Kivu is a smooth, light-bodied coffee with juicy peach topnotes, balanced by caramel and sugar cane sweetness and a lingering cocoa finish. Brew it hot to bring out the juicy peach notes, or make a batch of Cold Brew for a very sweet, rich coffee that’s lovely iced. Organic Congo Lake Kivu will be available in both Full and 1/2 roast bags through the month of July.
We put this week’s Spotlight on last month’s Exploration Coffee, Papua New Guinea Highlands. PNG Highlands is another coffee that’s great brewed either hot or cold . Brew it hot for a smooth, sweet and spicy coffee balanced by tangy apricot topnotes. Or make a batch of Cold Brew for an even fuller-bodied, sweeter cup.
Finally, to thank the readers of this blog, we’re offering a FREE 1/2 roast of coffee with your first order of the month. Just write, “July” in the box for Additional Instructions, and we’ll include a 1/2 roast bag of Summer Ice at no extra charge. Sharing coffee is our favorite way to celebrate our country’s Independence Day!
