Covid and the Dog Days of Summer
Carrie Masek
It's already August and many of us are struggling to keep our cool while the hottest days of summer bake the pandemic. Coffee can help! Whether you agree with the Chinese and sip it hot to chill, or prefer it frosty and iced, the Dog Days of Summer are a great time to enjoy your favorite coffee!
A good one to try is our August Coffee of the Month, Sea Salt Breeze, a sweet, full-bodied blend as refreshing as a trip to the seaside. Great brewed hot or cold. Try it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a very special treat! Available in both full and 1/2 roast bags through the month of August.
For a lighter, brighter way to chill, check our our Exploration Coffee for August. Tanzania Lungwa AA is a delightfully mellow microlot from Tanzania. At a City roast level, it’s sweet and clean with a tea-like body, grapefruit and lemon brightness, toffee sweetness and a rich, lingering finish. Lovely hot to help wake up your morning, or try it as Cold Brew over ice. Available all month in both full and 1/2 roast pouches.
Another great choice to brew hot or cold is our Spotlight coffee for the week, Costa Rica Geisha. A naturally processed “special batch” coffee from Tarrazu, it’s sweet, rich and complex, with a smooth, creamy body, candied passion fruit sweetness, chocolate richness and a complex lingering finish. This microlot has everything coffee connoisseurs love about Geisha beans. Check out our Spotlight for more information.
Whichever coffee you choose, please place your order a little earlier than usual, to give it more time to get to you. We’re still roasting and mailing coffee within a work day of receiving the order, but the USPS has slowed. Customers who have always received their coffee in 2-3 days are finding it’s taking longer as the pandemic continues.
This warning is not a complaint about the US Postal Service. The USPS is an amazing organization. Anyone who's lived overseas can appreciate how rare it is for mail to travel as quickly and reliably as it does here in the US. Even with postal workers continuing to get sick and despite a huge increase in the number of packages being processed and a morass of political pressure, the USPS is still more reliable than any other delivery service we do business with. The other delivery services are struggling, too. We’ve suffered delayed pick-ups and website crashes. In one case, a package coming to us disappeared completely. We’ve mailed our coffee for 17 years, and in that time, the USPS delivered all but one box.
The mail is still moving, but it is taking a little longer sometimes. Please keep this in mind and allow extra time for your coffee to arrive. Thanks!
Finally, to thank the readers of this blog, we're offering a free 1/2 roast of Sea Salt Breeze with your first order of the month. Just write, "August," in the box for Additional Instructions and we'll throw in the extra bag at no extra charge.
Sharing great coffee is our favorite way to enjoy the Dog Days of Summer.
