Happy New Year!

Carrie Masek

We did it! 2020 is finally over and 2021 has begun. Celebrate the New Year with coffee. For a bold cup to wake up your year try Midwinter's Brew, our Coffee of the Month for January. For those who prefer lighter roasted coffees, Organic Congo Lake Kivu is a rich and gently lively treat. And for everyone who needs a little fun right now, explore your coffee personality with A Match Made in Coffee.

Those who enjoy a bold start to their morning, will enjoy January’s Coffee of the Month, Midwinter’s Brew. A smooth, full-bodied coffee with dried fruit sweetness and a hint of spice, Midwinter’s Brew is bold enough to warm the coldest winter morning and smooth enough to enjoy all day. Available all month in both full and 1/2 roast pouches.

Our Exploration Coffee for January is Organic Congo Lake Kivu, a candy sweet coffee from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Roasted to a City roast level, the coffee boasts gentle apricot notes balanced by rich chocolate fudge and a hint of cardamom. Organic Congo Lake Kivu will be available in both full and 1/2 roast bags through January.

Last year this time, we were sad to learn there would be no New Guinea Kimel available for 2020. We are delighted that things are different this year. Despite supply chain complications for Indonesian coffees, we were able to buy new crop New Guinea Kimel. The quantities available were limited, but the quality is great. We love this coffee. It’s lively and very full-bodied with an intense aroma and hints of currant and chocolate. Grown from cuttings from Jamaica, it has the best of two worlds, the rich body of an Indonesian and the taste and aroma of Jamaican Blue Mountain. Roast it light to bring out lively floral notes or take it as dark as you dare, the coffee just gets sweeter and bolder the darker you go.

To start the year with some coffee fun, check out A Match Made in Coffee, our updated Coffee Personality Quiz. It’s a fun and silly way to explore your coffee preferences. Click through the options, and you just might discover a new coffee to love.

We’re looking forward to good coffee in 2021. What are you looking forward to in the coming year? Please join the conversation and share your thoughts on the Facebook thread or in a comment on this blog. Or, if you'd like to share your opinions with the wider world, leave us a coffee review on Google or on your favorite review site. Not only do we value your opinions, but reviews help more people find us. Help us connect coffee lovers to fresh, quality coffee!

And finally, to thank the readers of this blog, we’re offering a free 1/2 roast of Midwinter’s Brew with your first order of the month. Just write, “January,” in the box for Additional Instructions and we’ll throw in the 1/2 roast pouch at no extra charge.

We wish all our customers a healthy and happy New Year.
