It's May! (And we have new coffees)
Carrie Masek
Flowers are blooming and the weather is getting warmer, but spring mornings are still chilly enough for a good, hot cup of coffee. Whether you're celebrating Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day or holding out for Memorial Day weekend, May is a great month for coffee...and we have a bunch of new ones!
First up is Springtime Twist, our Coffee of the Month for May. A lively, smooth bodied coffee with a subtle floral aroma and a rich, lingering finish. Springtime Twist is perfect for a Mother’s Day brunch or to sip all day long. Available in full and 1/2 roast bags all month.
If you like flavored coffee, a great way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo is with a cup of Mexicali Creme, a mild, medium bodied coffee flavored with a Mexican style coffee/chocolate liquor and a hint of vanilla. It's a fiesta in a cup!
And now...new coffees! The one we're most excited about is a wonderful single estate microlot from the Finca El Derrumbo, El Salvador. Lively, sweet and rich, El Salvador Chalate is a smooth and surprisingly complex coffee that features cocoa and macadamia nut notes brightened by a splash of grapefruit and perfumed with the spicy citrus and floral notes of cascade hops. Add a lingering cocoa butter finish for a coffee that's outstanding black or add cream for an even richer, sweeter cup. We like this coffee so much, it's our 1/2 roast monthly special and our roaster chose it for our newest Roaster's Gold. In his words, "If you like Central American coffee, this one will blow your mind!"
Here's the list of our other new coffees with a brief description of each:
Burundi Kirema: A lively, balanced and complex coffee with a creamy mouthfeel, floral aroma, caramel and toffee sweetness and a hint of tart cherry.
Organic Sulawesi Kalosi: A washed, full-bodied, organically certified coffee with an intense aroma, smooth mouthfeel and complex flavor: Bakers chocolate spiced with licorice and sweetened with a hint of molasses.
Organic Sumatra Ipak Bensu: Bold, rich and sweet, a coffee to take as dark as you dare! A wet-hulled, Mandheling processed, organically certified co-op coffee, smooth and silky, with classic Sumatran body, nutty richness and tangy lemon brightness made even more complex by herbal notes and a hint of pine and bell pepper. Another fun thing about this organically certified coffee is it's produced by a group of women producers. It even says so on the bag.
Organic Uganda Bugisi: A surprisingly gentle African, this organic and Rain Forest Alliance certified coffee features a full body, cocoa and nut richness and spicy licorice sweetness.
And finally, to thank the readers of our blog, we're offering a free 1/2 roast of Springtime Twist with your first order of the month. Just write "May" in the box for Additional Instructions (or drop us a note) and we'll through in the extra coffee at no extra charge. Sharing coffee is our favorite way to celebrate the month of May.
