Coffee and...Girl Scout Cookies
Carrie Masek
What's better than Girl Scout Cookies and milk? Girl Scout Cookies and coffee! Forget about beer pairings and wine pairings. Some of us need coffee to keep up with our on-the-go girls! Grab your compasses and explore the best coffee to enjoy with four Girl Scout cookie favorites.
North: Do-si-dos®
The coffee growing regions of North and Central America are famous for smooth, sweet, easy-drinking coffee full of chocolate richness. Our favorite to enjoy with crunchy oatmeal and peanut butter sandwich cookies is Organic Mexico Oaxaca.
West: Samoas®
Heading west in your search for coffee? Try the Hawaiian island of Kona! The candy-sweet, rich coffee of Kona Puanani is perfect to enjoy with caramel and toasted coconut covered delights! Thrifty girl scouts, looking for a very similar coffee at a fraction of the price, choose Panama Boquete.
South: Thin Mints®
Keep going, and you may find yourself on a South Pacific Island. Many of the islands grow amazing coffee, but our favorite to enjoy with the big, dark chocolate and peppermint flavor of Thin Mints® is the big flavor of dark roasted (Vienna or Northern Italian) Papua New Guinea Kimel.
East: Trefoil®
We end our tour in the East African country of Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee. More varieties of coffee grow in the highlands of Ethiopia than any place else on earth, and the light and lively flavor of its coffee goes perfectly with the light and lively shortbread cookies. For a “practically perfect” coffee to go with a “practically perfect” cookie try Ethiopia Yirgacheff Lake Abaya.
Don't see your favorite cookie here? Or your favorite coffee? No worries. Whether you prefer a good South American like Colombia Los Naranjos, a complex full-bodied Indonesian like Organic Dragon, or a value priced blend, your favorite coffee is always the perfect partner for your favorite Girl Scout cookie. Enjoy!
